Monash educators train Chilean school administrators

The Universidad de Chile
The University’s Faculty of Education is helping train future Chilean primary school administrators.
Associate Professor Len Cairns and Dr Marc Pruyn recently lead a series of professional development workshops for staff from the Universidad de Chile’s Centre of Public Systems.
The professional development workshops were part of a certification offered to teachers and other school and community-based educators who were pursuing positions as primary school administrators.
Dr Pruyn said school administrators in Chile were facing the same kind of problems and challenges that all connected educators faced.
“The professional development workshops were designed to give future Chilean school administrators some of the tools necessary to work effectively in real school settings," Dr Pruyn said.
Associate Professor Cairns, internationally renowned for his research and teaching in the area of educational leadership, also delivered a public lecture on sustainable leadership, for which Dr Pruyn provided translation into Spanish.
The Faculty of Education has been active in Chile for a number of years and the presentation of the workshops continues to build on the collaboration between the faculty and the Universidad de Chile and Universidad Diego Portales, both in Santiago.
Last year Monash and the Universidad de Chile signed an agreement to develop a range of programs for students and research, with specialties in teacher education. The Universidad de Chile is the leading research institution in Chile and the top-ranking Chilean university.
