Creating space for every student to learn and grow

Eleanor’s teaching is grounded in care, connection, and a commitment to inclusive learning.

What does ‘being a changemaker’ mean to you personally?

To me, being a changemaker means meeting students where they are – recognising their individual journeys, and supporting them to grow into the version of themselves they can be most proud of. Change doesn’t always come from big gestures. Often, it’s the quiet acts of empathy, encouragement, and belief that make the deepest impact.

How do you help students build confidence and transition readiness, not just knowledge?

I start by understanding each student’s story. Building confidence means helping them develop the mindset and habits that they’ll need at university: taking initiative, asking questions, and seeing mistakes as part of learning. I create a space where students feel safe to focus on their strengths, build resilience, and notice their progress. When they feel seen and supported, they begin to believe in their ability to succeed.

How do you tailor your teaching approach to engage and inspire today’s students?

At Monash College, our students come from diverse backgrounds, so I take time to learn what motivates them. I design learning that’s interactive and relevant, connected to real-world contexts, media, and stories that matter to them. I also invite students to shape the classroom experience, giving them ownership and voice. When learning feels collaborative and student-driven, engagement naturally follows.

What motivates you to continue pushing boundaries in your work?

Seeing students grow in confidence and take pride in their progress is what keeps me going. I’m driven by the belief that education should evolve with our learners, and so, staying curious, reflecting on my practice, and experimenting with new approaches that make learning more inclusive and empowering are all things I value.

What’s something about Monash College that would surprise people in a good way?

People are often surprised by how supportive and community-focused Monash College is. Behind the academic rigour is a culture of care – teachers and staff who go out of their way to help students feel welcomed and understood. It’s not just about preparing for university; it’s about building confidence, connection, and a sense of belonging.

What’s the biggest myth about pathways education you wish more people would rethink?

One common myth is that pathway students are here because they didn’t qualify for direct undergraduate degree entry. In reality, many choose this route for its structure, support, and fast-track opportunities. Pathway programs are rigorous and purpose-built to help students thrive – academically, linguistically, and culturally. They offer a strong foundation that sets students up for long-term success.
