Focusing on the learning journey

Megan’s mantra – it’s not about knowing the answers, it's about learning how to get there.

What are you doing differently in your field that you believe is driving real change?

Integration of skills, concepts and different perspectives and approaches to create learning journeys with a focus on the journey rather than the output.

How do you help students build confidence, not just knowledge?

Making learning accessible; providing opportunities for students to become independent learners.

What do you hope your students take away from their time with you?

That I care about their learning experiences; a student once pulled me aside at the end of the year to thank me for caring about their learning. I want students to know that my job is to support their learning and I am constantly working towards refining their learning experiences.

I make learning accessible; providing opportunities for students to become independent learners.

What legacy or ripple effect do you hope to leave behind?

It's not about knowing the answers, it's about learning how to get there.

What motivates you to continue pushing boundaries in your work?

It's those "aha!" moments that I love, when something clicks for a student or they (and I) identify their misconception which unlocks the concept for them. It's the desire to keep identifying the roadblocks and finding a way around them.

How do you tailor your teaching approach to engage and inspire today's students?

By being a reflective educator. I have to be there in the classroom to see what motivates them, what confuses them, what bores them, what inspires them. Students give a lot of feedback, both implicitly and explicitly; I need to collect this feedback, reflect and refine my approaches.
