Frankston Regional Aquatic, Health and Wellness Centre

Monash University Peninsula Campus together with the Frankston City Council and Chisholm Institute of TAFE are working together to investigate the development of a 'one-stop' Aquatic Leisure, Health and Wellness Community Centre.

Planning to date has developed the facility concept incorporating the key features:

  • An aquatic and recreational facility incorporating therapy, training and recreational facilities for people of all ages;

  • A multi-disciplinary clinic to provide education and training in health, wellness and sport for Monash University and Chisholm TAFE students as well as other educational institutions in the region;

  • A leading research centre looking at strategies to promote healthy ageing, disease prevention and health promotion for all age groups ;

  • A community meeting place for people of all interests, abilities and ages;

  • A community resource providing advice and support to assist people in leading healthy and active lives.

It is planned that the centre will be located in the northwest corner of Peninsula campus, which will provide easy community access as well as placing the centre in a prominent position for passing traffic.

There is much work to be completed for the project to progress including:

  • Financial and business feasibility plans;

  • Management and operational plans;

  • Legal agreements;

  • Submissions for State and Commonwealth Government grants and project support;

  • Detailed centre design and identification of final facility components;

  • Identification of commercial development opportunities.

  • These plans together with successful grant applications will facilitate the feasibility of the centre as well as help with identifying the final funds required to meet the project's capital costs.

    The Frankston Regional Aquatic Health and Wellness Centre will be a unique facility within Australia. If all levels of government in association with the education sector and the Frankston community work together it can become a reality.
