Peninsula Hockey Centre

Hockey field

The development of the Peninsula Hockey Centre is a perfect example of the campus's commitment to providing facilities not only to students but to the community.

The centre was established at the Peninsula campus in 2002. The  construction costs of $1.1 million were shared between Frankston City Council, Monash University, Monash Student Union, Mornington Peninsula Shire Council, Sport and Recreation Victoria and local hockey clubs.

The centre is home to three local hockey clubs, the Frankston Hockey Club, the Mornington Peninsula Hockey Club and the Peninsula Women's Hockey Club, as well as hosting the Monash Peninsula Seadragons Soccer Club.

Prior to the establishment of the hockey pitch, the local hockey clubs did not have a home ground to play or practise on. The facility is also heavily utilised by local school groups as well as Monash Peninsula students.

Justin Madden launches the hockey pitch

When he officially launched the centre in April 2002, Sport and Recreation Minister Mr Justin Madden said the hockey pitch not only provided a much needed resource for sport in the region but also showed what could be achieved when communities worked together.

"Facilities like this don't just happen. Even with the funding, there is a lot of collaboration and cooperation needed to make a project like this work," he said.

The Peninsula Hockey Centre is managed by Monash Sport and information about booking the facility should be directed  to 9904 4413.
