Peninsula Paramedic Nurse Forum a Great Success

September 5th saw students and staff of the double degree Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Emergency Health (Paramedic) gather at the Seahorse Tavern for lunch and a presentation by David Kervin, RN and MAS Clinical Educator, entitled 'The Paramedic Nurse in Practice'.

Paramedic Nurse ForumDavid was supported by Kerryn Maher of MAS in presenting their views of interprofessional practice opportunities for Paramedic Nurses, a new emergency health role. David and Kerryn are both paramedic and nursing graduates of Monash University and are well placed to advise and mentor our current students.

Monash University has been successful in its application for Commonwealth funding for additional places in this course for the next four years. Dr Virginia Plummer from the School of Nursing and Midwifery says "we are delighted with this news and the clear commitment of the Federal government to paramedic nurse practice".

Research Month Poster Roadshow

The Struan Postgraduate Centre has played host to a traveling exhibition of student research posters as part of Monash Research Month. From the 11th to 14th of September, staff and students at Peninsula campus had the opportunity to view a selection of entries from the inaugural HDR poster exhibition, held to celebrate the depth, breadth and overall contribution students make to the research activities and output at Monash.

All current Higher Degree by Research students were invited to submit a poster for the exhibition which was opened by the Vice Chancellor at Clayton campus and then displayed at all other Victorian-based campuses.

Engaging the Community: Kids as Researchers Public Lecture

You don't have to be a superhero to save the planet, was the message delivered by Dr Amy Cutter-Mackenzie at her Research Month public lecture on the 11th of September.

Research Month LogoAccording to recent Monash research, viewing the world through children's eyes can provide amazing insights into issues of global relevance. The lecture explored the potential of ‘kids as researchers’ in practising and developing sustainability programs.

This event was the Peninsula contribution to the Monash Research Month Lecture Series. Dr Cutter-Mackenzie is a lecturer in the Faculty of Education at Peninsula campus.
