Research at the Peninsula Campus

Research is a key component for staff and students at the Peninsula campus. Currently there are about 100 Higher Degree by Research students enrolled at the Peninsula campus incorporating 62 PhD students and 38 Masters by Research students.

Staff are also heavily involved in a variety of collaborative research projects in conjunction with government organisations, industry, fellow Monash colleagues and other universities and research institutions.

Research undertaken at the campus covers a diverse range of areas with an emerging theme on health and wellbeing.

Another key theme that all academic areas focus on is best practice in education. Research in areas including curriculum development, student learning and expectations, the role of the 'hands on' experience in tertiary education and the impact of professional education, demonstrate how vital research and teaching skills merge

Research diversity at the Peninsula campus

Community Emergency Health and Paramedic Practice

The Department of Community Emergency Health and Paramedic Practice has a strong research focus on trauma and  prehospital care. The centre is particularly active in collaborative research with the Victorian Trauma Foundation and is currently involved in developing a range of research initiatives from asthma care to student clinical support.

Business and Economics

Staff in the Faculty of Business and Economics at the Peninsula campus  conduct research in many areas, with key research strengths in international business strategy and business education. Education

The Faculty of Education at the Peninsula campus has a particular focus on research in the areas of early childhood and primary education. Staff within the faculty are currently working on more than 20 different research projects ranging from children's perception of their environment to research into offshore teaching and the role grandparents play in young children's learning.

Health Science

The research profile of the Department of Health Science is predominantly in the public health-social sciences bloc, with a unique blending of social health sciences and bio-science that creates opportunities for multi-paradigm and mixed method research partnerships

Nursing and Midwifery

Staff within the School of Nursing at the Peninsula campus are involved in a variety of research opportunities incorporating models of care in a range of nursing settings including palliative care, midwifery, acute clinical care and mental health. Such issues as over the counter medications and herbal remedies in pregnancy, palliative care needs of veterans and adolescent depression are all explored through research in Nursing.

Occupational Therapy

Research in the field of Occupational Therapy is exploring issues including forensic OT, young people in nursing homes, paediatric OT and professional accreditation in the profession.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy research is currently focusing on the risk of pulmonary complications following upper abdominal surgery, the epidemiology of low back pain and strengthening exercises for chronic lower back pain.
