Mentoring changes

We’re excited to share that the mentoring program is transitioning from scholarships to paid roles. This change ensures fairness, clarity, and flexibility for all mentors. You’ll be paid for the time you spend mentoring, attending training, participating in outreach, and even travel.

This update aligns with best practices across universities and helps us support more mentees while recognising your valuable contribution.

Why This Change Benefits You

  • Fair and Consistent Compensation Every mentor will be paid for their time—mentoring, outreach, training, and travel—so your contribution is recognised equally.
  • Greater Role Clarity and Support Paid roles come with clear expectations and structured hours, making it easier to balance mentoring with study and other commitments.
  • More Opportunities to Get Involved The new model includes more paid outreach activities and events, giving you more chances to make an impact and earn income.
  • Financial Flexibility Instead of relying on scholarships or juggling extra jobs, you’ll be paid for the actual hours you work.
  • Professional Experience for Your CV Paid mentoring roles demonstrate leadership and teamwork in a formal employment setting—great for future job applications.
