Supporting social cohesion and peace
Monash University is implementing programs to strengthen dialogue and build social cohesion, focusing on peace and mutual understanding:
- A $1M action-based research program led by Associate Professor David Slucki and Dr Susan Carland addresses antisemitism, islamophobia, and related prejudices.
- The university facilitates student dialogues to promote peace and understanding, supported by Professor Jacqui True and Yorta Yorta and Boon Wurrung men Mr. Jamil Tye and Mr. Josef Tye.
- Monash will double humanitarian scholarships for students affected by conflicts and review its ESG Statement with student associations.
- Monash University is addressing issues of protest and free speech on its Clayton campus, emphasising peaceful protest and protection of freedom of speech while condemning behavior that violates policies or the law.
- Monash University addressed a protest activity on its Clayton campus related to the Middle East conflict, emphasising safety, security, and adherence to university policies.
