Monash University recently had the honour of hosting His Excellency Mr Paolo Crudele, Ambassador of Italy to Australia, for his first official visit to the Monash Clayton Campus. Ms Hanna Pappalardo, Consul General of Italy in Melbourne, accompanied the Ambassador.

Ambassador Crudele met Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Sharon Pickering, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Europe), Professor Cecilia Hewlett, Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) and Senior Vice-President, Professor Mike Ryan, and other university staff members. They discussed the university's ongoing commitments in Italy, including the activities of the Monash University, Prato Centre, and the Monash University European Research Foundation (MUERF), co-located in Prato, in international education and research.

The Prato Centre welcomes one-fifth of Monash's outbound Australian students. Programs such as the Monash Global Campus Intensives and the Global Immersion Guarantee offer students unique opportunities to immerse themselves in Prato. Monash's activities in Prato also foster a thriving research environment, connecting Monash researchers to extensive European networks. The MUERF is vital in driving new European collaborations and expanding research innovation across higher education, research, and industry.

The visit from Ambassador Crudele underscored Monash's commitment to strengthening our international collaborations and our role as a leading global education and research institution in the Indo-Pacific. It was also an opportunity for Monash to showcase the value of our footprint across the region and establish how Italian institutions could engage with Monash's global campus network.

The visit has further strengthened the relationship between Monash University and Italy, opening doors for new partnerships and initiatives. Monash University looks forward to continuing its engagement with Italian institutions.
