TeaMWork Internships Program

TeaMWork is a virtual internship program that brings together students and organisations from across the globe to work on a collaborative project. The project will support an organisation in any challenges and opportunities it may be facing. We are particularly encouraging projects themed towards achieving one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and/or one that aims to achieve an ethical outcome, however, all projects are welcome. Students are from Monash University in Australia, Indonesia and Malaysia, and the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom and from a diverse range of backgrounds and disciplines. The students work in teams of 6-8 collaboratively with organisation partners over four weeks in the June-July semester break to achieve the desired project outcomes.

The program is wholly supported by the award-winning global partnership - the Monash Warwick Alliance. The Alliance harnesses the collective strengths of two universities from opposite sides of the globe, creating international opportunities for students.

TeaMWork projects can include:

Reviewing and developing corporate sustainability initiatives.
Developing business plans and communication strategies.
Creating a corporate social responsibility plan or ethos.
Bringing a new product to market or adapting a product for a new market.
Identifying the impact of emerging technology.
Designing and carrying out research.

Organisations will provide a project for a group of 6-8 multidisciplinary students to work on for a period of four weeks. This could be a challenge or development opportunity that the organisation is facing. We are especially seeking opportunities themed around the UN SDGs or to achieve an ethical outcome; however, we welcome all varieties of projects.

The organisation will assign an Organisation Mentor to communicate and meet virtually with the student team and help guide them through the project for the duration of the program. A University Contact will also be assigned to the team to assist with questions and track team progress throughout the program.

Eligibility and requirements

We welcome all projects, regardless of whether your organisation is a:

Start-up
Small business
Medium, large and/or transnational organisation
Non-government organisation, non-for-profit organisation or charity
Government department or institution

Your organisation can be located domestically or internationally, anywhere in the world.

Monash University will recruit, select, and support the teams of students working with you on your project. To get started, submit your project brief for review and approval by our team.

In the TeaMWork program, students will complete an industry project online with a multidisciplinary team of 6-8 students from Monash University (Australia, Indonesia and Malaysia), and from the University of Warwick (United Kingdom). For the duration of the four-week program, you'll receive mentoring, guidance, and training from the universities and your organisation’s industry mentor as you work to achieve the desired outcomes of your organisation's project.

Eligibility and requirements

To be eligible for this program, you must:

Be enrolled in at least one unit in Semester 2, 2026.
Be in your second year of study or above at Monash University Australia, Monash University Malaysia, Monash University Indonesia or the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom.
Be able to commit to the duration of the program from Monday 29 June - Friday 24 July 2026.
Have a computer and a working internet connection to participate in the virtual project. We’ll provide you with an online platform where you can connect and collaborate with your team, your Organisation Mentor and University Contact.

Digital badge for Impact through Global Teamwork

For students that demonstrate exceptional teamwork and leadership skills above and beyond usual completion of the program requirements, you’ll receive a digital badge for Impact through Global Teamwork. You can share this immediately on your CV, LinkedIn or social media to promote your achievement. Digital badges can help you stand out from the crowd both academically and professionally, as a Monash digital badge is only awarded for exceptional skills achievement.

FAQs

For students

You must be:
- A Monash Australia or Malaysia student
- In your second year of study or higher (preference may be given to penultimate and final year students, first-year undergraduate students will not be selected)
- Available for the duration of the internship period
- Committed to completing all mandatory training
- Able to access a device and internet connection (please email teamwork@monash.edu if this is an issue)
If applications are closed, you can complete an expression of interest form on the website and you will be notified once applications are open.
TeaMWork 2027 Expression of Interest Form
The TeaMWork team will communicate a specific timeline with you if you are selected for the program. As a general rule, applications open at the end of February / early March, training must be completed by the end of April / early May and the internship period will be over the June-July break between semesters.
You will not be paid for your short internship experience. This is a co-curricular program meaning you cannot count it towards your degree. However, it may count towards professional practice/consulting hours for some degrees.
You will not be notified until just prior to the project beginning in June. There are many reasons for this, including the need to focus on the second half of the semester. You cannot choose your project but will be matched based on your application: your degree, interest area and project category preferences. We also take into account specific skills the organisation might require to complete the project successfully.
Students can use this experience to access an internship when it may not fit into their course or when they may not have the time or resources to do a long internship or collaboration overseas. The program allows you to access real, industry-based experiences and an opportunity to meet peers from across the globe.
Some students from previous years have continued working for their employer, secured graduate roles or have used their experience for promotion on LinkedIn, interviews, to access other opportunities.
TeaMWork Digital Badge - 'Impact through Global Teamwork'
Attain endorsement of your exceptional teamwork and leadership skills from industry and university experts. To achieve this, you must demonstrate a solution that integrates global collaboration, intercultural competence, and proactive initiative, all while responding to a real-world industry challenge. The solution presented must be innovative, feasible, and supported by clear evidence and reasoning, culminating in a final presentation or report to industry professionals.
To earn a TeaMWork digital badge:
1. Work effectively in interdisciplinary, cross-faculty, and globalised teams, demonstrating effective leadership and intercultural competence.
2. Articulate key principles of research, presentation, and intercultural skills for success in a globalised workforce.
3. Deliver an outstanding, valuable, feasible, and implementable solution to industry challenges, while addressing real-world problems using real data to provide practical and relevant solutions.
4. Each team will have an Organisation Mentor and University Contact who can nominate a student for the badge.
Digital badges for these programs commence in June 2024. Badges cannot be issued for achievements before this date.

For organisations

Any organisation of any size can apply, however, we may give preference to organisations or projects that work towards achieving the United Nations Sustainability and Development goals. In the past, we have had small startups, large transnational organisations, community-based and large NGOs, corporate firms and education organisations. Anyone is welcome.
To participate Organisations must:
- Complete the application form that requests organisation details as well as the outline of a proposed project
- A signed terms of agreement form
- Nominate one or more people from the organisation to be an Organisation Mentor, who can dedicate at least one hour per week for the duration of four weeks to assisting students
An Organisation Mentor is an employee from an organisation that assists students in completing their projects. This includes hosting check-in meetings throughout the duration of the program, answering industry-specific questions or offering professional advice. The Organisation Mentor may be the CEO, Talent Manager or anyone who has at least one hour per week for the four weeks to interact with students and support them.
In each project group, an Organisation will have a University Contact (UC). The UC is a staff member at one of the three universities and is there to support the Organisation Mentor and students. This may be through answering any admin or project-specific questions, assisting to motivate the group to meet deadlines when needed and resolving any issues within the team.
Absolutely! An organisation can be involved in multiple teams if they have the capacity, by:
- Having multiple teams work on the same project. This is particularly popular with organisations that submit a consultancy, business change or marketing project as you will likely receive two completely different outcomes!
- Submitting different projects. Maybe you have multiple problems you would like students to solve or multiple opportunities for students to explore. You can divide tasks based on different areas of the organisation.
In the application form, an organisation will choose which output they would like students to work towards. This may be a report, presentation to the Board, or marketing assets - it is up to the organisation's discretion.
