Partnering with us
Partnering for a healthier, climate-resilient future
Climate change reaches people as a health problem in emergency departments, general practice, aged care, and in the homes of those least able to cope including pregnant mothers and children. The Monash Health and Climate Initiative starts at that end deliberately. We are health researchers working in the climate space: clinicians, nurses, infectious disease physicians, epidemiologists, biostatisticians, health economists and health systems researchers, working alongside climate and exposure scientists.
We work with health data and apply clinical, modelling and systematic review methods to identify evidence and data gaps, estimate attribution and burden of disease, assess quantitative microbial and environmental risk, evaluate the health economics of intervening and what works. We also understand how health services are governed, funded and pressured, which is what allows our evidence to translate into clinical guidance, strategic foresight, service planning and policy recommendations.
The Monash Health and Climate Initiative is working with governments, health services, industry and communities across Australia and the Indo-Pacific to translate evidence into policy, planning and practice.
How we work together
1. Co-design and embed research
We can co-design research to meet your specific needs, ranging from pilot projects or short-term evaluations to major flagship programs. We co-develop proposals with philanthropy, government and multilateral funders — bringing matched institutional investment, in-kind expertise and established regional partnerships to strengthen and extend impact.
2. PhD placements
There are specific ways to work with us on people and capability:
- PhD projects. We can work with you on problems you or your organisation would like addressed, scope it into a doctoral project, and help recruit a candidate. You can help shape the research question and supervise alongside our academics.
- Sponsor a scholarship. Fund a stipend or top-up scholarship in one of our impact areas, either against a defined project or as an open call in a priority theme.
If you are an individual looking for an advertised PhD opportunity rather than a partner organisation, see our current opportunities.
3. Knowledge exchange and networking
Join one of our events, which provide a forum for knowledge exchange with a diverse community of interdisciplinary researchers, practitioners and policy makers to advance climate-resilient health practices, policies and strategies.
4. Technical and strategic support
We can provide specific expertise in a range of areas including:
- Climate and health risk modelling, projection and attribution.
- Heat-health and air quality risk analysis, warning systems, thresholds and triggers.
- Health impact analysis including the health co-benefits of emissions reduction.
- Health system resilience, continuity and decarbonisation.
- Data analytics, surveillance design, evidence synthesis and reviews.
- Clear policy advice and briefings for decision-makers navigating contested or complex evidence.
- Climate-health informatics and data standards to make climate-related impacts on maternal and child health visible and actionable in health data systems.
- Systematic reviews and meta-analyses, evidence mapping, and methodological research to provide robust health and climate evidence.
