Hundreds of Year 12 students attended the annual scholarship ceremony this afternoon, where they were awarded with scholarship offers.
With the release of the 2014 VCE results today, more than 2400 students were offered scholarships. Of that number, 32 students who achieved a perfect Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) of 99.95, were offered a Monash Scholarship for Exceptional Achievement worth up to $70,000 under the Sir John Monash Scholarship Program.
An additional eight Exceptional Achievement Scholarships were offered to Indigenous students for achieving an ATAR higher than 90.
A further 540 students with an ATAR above 98 also received a scholarship offer.
VCE student Leticia Peart attended today's ceremony with her parents. The Ivanhoe Girls Grammar student hopes to study medicine in 2015 and continue the family's association with Monash by becoming a second generation graduate. Her parents Kate and David studied Science at Monash during the 1980s and met during their time at Clayton campus.
"I hope to study medicine in 2015, and a scholarship to Monash is a great help in pursing my goals," Leticia said.
Also receiving their scholarships today were Xavier College friends, Dan Vaughan who hopes to study either science or arts, Zac Kalman Haussegger hoping to study arts, and Mathew Min Xia Vii who is hoping to study medicine in 2015.
Other Sir John Monash Scholarship program offers were made to students for Outstanding Achievement, Outstanding Achievement (Indigenous), Excellence and Equity, Community Leadership and International Excellence.
President and Vice-Chancellor of Monash University, Professor Margaret Gardner AO said the University’s broad scholarship program is just one part of the wider commitment to providing high-quality educational opportunities to all students.
“In particular, the scholarships presented today are offered to an exceptional group of young students for their academic achievements and dedication to their studies,” Professor Gardner said.
“To achieve such a result demonstrates drive, determination and a focus on excellence. The University is proud to be able to support such commitment with one of the most comprehensive and generous scholarship programs offered in Australia.”
In addition to the scholarships offered, more than 700 students will be offered a bursary if they study for an undergraduate degree at Monash in 2015.
