How long have you worked at Monash?
Since February this year

Where did you work prior to starting at the University?
I am an Intensive Care Specialist, and have worked in the public and private hospital system since 1980

What do you like best about your role?
Being able to teach the best and brightest, and working with the MBBS team to help develop and implement a program that will train the next generation of health care leaders

Why did you choose your current career path?
I had done a fair stint as a full time public hospital specialist, and I thought that the next challenge for me was in the area of medical education. I’ve always loved teaching, and had been guilty of the usual “they ‘orta” whinging… this job was an opportunity to be part of the solution

First job?
Holidiay job at school working in a clothes store

Worst job?
ICU work can be tiring, and stressfull and difficult, but I’ve been lucky – I haven’t had a “worst” job.

What research are you currently working on and what does it involve?
I’m doing a summer project with David Paganin in the School of Physics looking at “lensless” imaging systems.

What is your favourite place in the world and why?
Cambridge Univeristy – a combination of one of the most beautiful places in the world, and one of most inspiring. It’s always been monastic, but the “religition” is now intellectural enquiry.

What is your favourite place to eat and why?
At home with my family – I enjoy their company!

What is the best piece of advice you have received?
“The worst thing you can do is just wait for it to happen – you have to choose”

Tell us something about yourself that your colleagues wouldn’t know?
There was a photograph of me on the back page of the Herald in 1964 – night before the Grand Final – sitting on Ron Barassi’s shoulders. “Youngster takes a screamer over Barassi”, read the headline! My father was the Phyiotherapist at the Demons.
