The contributions of Dr Rowan Ogeil to psychology and psychiatry have been recognised with a prestigious award – the 2016 Australia-Harvard Fellowship.

In association with The Harvard Alumni Association (HAA), Dr Ogeil of the Eastern Health Clinical School received the award from the Harvard Club of Australia, which aims to promote learned exchanges between Harvard University and Australian research organisations.

"I'm honoured to receive such a prestigious award, and to continue the important work that we have been doing at Monash with our partners in Boston examining the use of sleep and wake promoting drugs by shift workers, and how use of these impacts upon their health and productivity," Dr Ogeil said.

In 2009, Adjunct Professor Steven W. Lockley was awarded the 2016 Australia Harvard Fellowship for his research in sleep and chronobiology. He also studied the impact of long work hours and sleep disorders.

This esteemed recognition is an honour for Dr Ogeil and will allow him to work as a visiting faculty member in the Division of Sleep Medicine at Harvard Medical School. This award will also allow Dr Ogeil to further his research at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital examining work hours, drug use, sleep and performance outcomes in emergency workers.

During his time in Boston, Dr Ogeil will work with Dr Laura Barger, a founding member of the Harvard Work Hours Health and Safety Group.
