Inaugural 2012 MBA Leadership speaker event a success

Three successful entrepreneurs and business leaders shared their experiences with attendees at the recent 2012 MBA Leadership Speaker Series.
Over 90 people attended the first event of the event, which aims to put Monash University students and alumni in touch with business and community leaders.
Deputy Director of the Monash MBA program, Dr Paul Kalfadellis from the University’s Department of Management, said this event was part of a long-term set of engagement opportunities for Monash MBA alumni, students and community and corporate partners.
Speakers Paula Allen, Jeff Rowley and Matthew Newman discussed their life-changing experiences and how they had gained wisdom through adversity.
Ms Allen has established an exceptional reputation over 20 years for delivering consistent and improved business outcomes. She is currently serving as a business advisory member to ASIC and a member of the Professional Misconduct Tribunal.
Mr Rowley is an Australian big-wave surfer, adventure athlete and ambassador for a number of charities and philanthropic causes.
Mr Newman is a highly experienced executive recruitment professional with over 14 years experience in senior appointments within Australian, United Kingdom and South East Asia.
Founder and Director of international consulting firm KWAN Jon Burgess, moderator of the event, said he valued meeting people such as Ms Allen, Mr Rowley and Mr Newman.
“What I value most when I meet people is what I learn from them. Seek to understand and seek to learn with humility,” Mr Burgess said.
