International Award for nutrition scientist

Emeritus Professor Mark Wahlqvist AO
Emeritus Professor Mark Wahlqvist AO has been honoured with an award from the Chinese Nutrition Society.
The Chinese Nutrition Society 70th Anniversary Celebrations International Award was presented to Professor Wahlqvist for his outstanding achievements in the study of global health and nutrition.
He was one of three recipients of the prestigious award, including the Past President of the International Union of Nutritional Sciences (IUNS) Dr Ibrahim Elmadfa of Vienna and American economist and food science researcher Professor Barry Popkin from Chapel Hill. Professor Wahlqvist himself is a former President of the IUNS.
Professor Wahlqvist said he was particularly honoured to receive the award.
“The study of nutrition science in China has developed impressively and now leads the world in many areas,” Professor Wahlqvist said.
“I’m grateful for the recognition and hope to continue to play a part in facilitating their success.”
Professor Wahlqvist is a world authority on medicine, health, nutrition, food systems and the ecological dependence of human health . At Monash, he is an Adjunct Professor with the School of Health and Preventive Medicine, was Director of the Asia Pacific Health and Nutrition Centre within the Monash Asia Institute and Head of the Department of Medicine.
He also holds a number of senior roles in health sciences institutes and organisations internationally, including Director of the Fuli Institute of Food Science and Nutrition and Visiting Professor in Food and Nutritional Science at Zhejiang University, and Visiting Professor at the Centre for Health Policy Research and Development, National Health Research Institutes, Taiwan.
His work has taken him from Australia to much of the world, but notably Sweden, South-East Asia, China, Taiwan, and parts of Africa.
