Monash road safety expert to advise Victorian Attorney-General

Professor Mark Stevenson
One of Australia's leading road safety experts has been appointed to advise the Coronial Council of Victoria.
Director of the Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC), Professor Mark Stevenson will strengthen the Council in its mission to provide advice to the Attorney-General.
The Coronial Council of Victoria is independent of the Coroners Court and the government. It was established in 2010 to provide strategic advice and recommendations to the Attorney-General on the coronial process. The organisation also analyses how the bereaved, the police, staff and others experience the service, to ensure a responsive and effective coronial system.
Professor Stevenson's appointment results from a major review of the Council which highlighted the need for a leading expert on road safety with specific skills in research.
Professor Stevenson said he was delighted to be part of a unique organisation, thought to be a world first.
“I am honoured to accept this position and contribute to such an important institution in the Victorian justice system,” Professor Stevenson said.
“A key part of the role will be to identify emerging trends and patterns in cases, as well as provide advice on legislative issues and proposed law reforms."
MUARC is Australia's largest and most respected transport safety research centre. Established in 1987 the centre's research, consultancy and training encompasses safety across all modes of transport.
