Monash University’s Professor Kirstie Galbraith has been awarded the prestigious Fred J Boyd Award by Advanced Pharmacy Australia (AdPha).
The award is considered the premier national accolade presented by AdPha, recognising a member who has made an extraordinary, sustained contribution to hospital pharmacy and the wider profession over many years.
As Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Education in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Monash University, she has led major transformative initiatives for over two decades.
Most recently, Professor Galbraith’s work at Monash involved leading the development of Victoria’s first combined Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) and Doctor of Pharmacy double degree, which starts in 2027.
Professor Galbraith said receiving the national accolade reflects the collective efforts across education and practice.
“This award is a wonderful honour, but it truly reflects the dedication of the many brilliant educators, practitioners and leaders I have had the privilege to work alongside over many years,” Professor Galbraith said.
Her work at Monash builds on a rich legacy of initiatives, including the Intern Foundation Program and Student Experiential Placements, which have reshaped how Australian pharmacists are trained and credentialed. Beyond her University leadership, Professor Galbraith influences healthcare policy through her board roles with the Australian Pharmacy Council and Pharmaceutical Defence Limited, as well as her leadership as Director of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) Hub.
Professor Galbraith said the focus must always remain on equipping practitioners to deliver better care for patients.
“Our goal in transforming education is to empower practitioners with the skills, confidence and trust required to meet evolving community health needs,” Professor Galbraith said.
This significant career milestone and honour highlights Professor Glabraith’s remarkable ability to combine education, regulation and clinical care to drive meaningful reform.
