Renowned marketing academic joins Monash

An internationally renowned marketing academic has been appointed as a professor in the Department of Marketing. Professor Hean Tat Keh is known for his award-winning research on services marketing, brand management, marketing strategy and consumer behaviour.

Head of the Department of Marketing Professor Harmen Oppewal said Professor Keh brought a formidable wealth of research knowledge to the department.

“His expertise aligns very well with the department’s main research strengths of brands and communications, retailing and services, strategy and capabilities and social marketing as well as the department’s methodological areas of expertise, especially behavioural experimental research,” Professor Oppewal said.

“His reputation and contacts will help strengthen the department and faculty’s international relationships, especially in Asia. It is great to have a scholar of this calibre joining the department and we are delighted with the appointment."

Professor Keh had been at the University Of Queensland Business School since 2011 and has also taught at the Guanghua School of Management, Peking University and the NUS Business School, National University of Singapore. He has also been a visiting professor at Korea University and gained corporate experience at the Wharf (Holdings) Limited, Hong Kong.

He received his BBA (Honours) from the University of East Asia, Macau, his MBA from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and his PhD from the University of Washington.

Professor Keh has published seven articles in the ‘Financial Times 45’ journals, including Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Business Venturing and Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice.

His research has also appeared in other prestigious journals such as Industrial Marketing Management, Journal of Retailing, Marketing Letters, Journal of Advertising, Journal of International Marketing, Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology, Psychology and Marketing, European Journal of Operational Research, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Business Horizons and Long Range Planning.

This highly regarded instructor has won numerous teaching awards, including the ‘Most Popular MBA Professor’ for three consecutive years at Peking University.

He is a member of the Academic Liaison Board of the CMO Council and has conducted executive programs and consulted with blue-chip companies such as Ericsson, European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS), Glaxo Smith Kline (China), Samsung (China), SK Holdings, British Telecom, Dow Chemical, Malaysia Airlines, Tenaga National Berhad (Malaysia), Midea, China Agricultural Machinery Corporation, China Merchants Bank and Singapore Pools.

Professor Keh will commence his appointment on 1 May 2013.
