2025 projects
BOLSTER
Supports advanced interdisciplinary research missions with established international partnerships and networks. Monash's support aims to elevate and expand their international research impact by deepening their relationships with existing partners; connecting with new or prospective partners; providing avenues to apply their research in different settings; and identifying opportunities to increase their scale.
Open Nutrition: Towards a Global Platform for Dietary Assessment
Inconsistent and poorly conducted dietary assessments hinder effective nutrition policies. This project establishes ‘Intake24’ as a global platform, starting with India, China and Indonesia, to streamline nutrition data collection for ~40% of the world’s population, ensuring comprehensive analysis to improve policies and improve global health.

Co-designing a global living evidence architecture with our region
Clinical practice guidelines quickly become outdated, leaving health decision-makers without reliable, up-to-date evidence. With this project Monash academics, collaborating with a global organisation and leveraging AI, will improve global health outcomes by ensuring decisions are informed by the latest research - effectively, a Living Guidelines Evidence System.

BOOST
Supports interdisciplinary research missions with established international partnerships and networks. Monash's support aims to help teams apply their research in diverse contexts, identifying avenues for broader collaboration and growth.
Maternal and Child Health Climate Resilience in Indo-Pacific Region
Climate-related health risks to maternal and child health are increasing. This project builds a network across Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Fiji and Australia to address these risks. By including women and adolescent girls, it aims to identify gaps and develop culturally sensitive, evidence-based interventions and guidelines.

Asia-Pacific resilient hospitals and health facilities initiative
Disaster and climate change adaptation capacities of hospitals need strengthening. This project will establish Monash campuses as Asia-Pacific Resilient Hospitals and Health Facilities (RHHF) centres. It will assess and strengthen capacities of Monash-affiliated hospitals, recommend tools, train staff for rosters, and collaborate with Monash Malaysia's climate and health hub, providing a model for hospitals globally.

Boosting culturally appropriate medication management for older people in the Indo-Pacific
Rapidly ageing populations in Indo-Pacific countries face significant challenges in preventing medication-related harm. This project aims to address this issue by developing culturally appropriate strategies and generating evidence to inform policy and practice, starting with countries from ASEAN.
Chief Investigators:

BUILD
Provides teams with opportunities to explore research collaborations across disciplines, and engage and build new partnerships with international organisations.
Partnerships for Challenge-Oriented Research and Innovation Policy
Australia's current research and innovation (R&I) policy framework remains largely traditional, yet a mission-oriented research approach is gaining international recognition as a critical driver of innovation and societal impact. Drawing on the expertise and research relationships with international partners, this project will map the R&I policy landscape by establishing a new international science-policy network.

The EQUitable Implementation research and Practice (EQUIP) network
The field of Implementation Science, while increasingly prioritising health equity, is hindered by siloed professional groups, limited collaboration, and the exclusion of diverse perspectives, creating a significant gap between research and practice. This project will build upon an international network of early and mid-career researchers, practitioners and community members with lived experience expertise, who are committed to strengthening equity in implementation research and practice.

Building financial resilience of people with disabilities
Co-designing financial products, literacy programs, and sustainable investments will empower people with disabilities to mitigate financial risks from climate change. Collaborating with government bodies and financial institutions in Fiji, the project seeks long-term changes to reduce economic vulnerability and enhance ability for people with disabilities to handle climate-related challenges.

Asia-Pacific Consortium for Advancing Clinical Psychedelic Medicine
While psychedelic-assisted therapies have shown great promise, Southeast Asian countries are yet to pursue research in this field due to cultural, legislative, and capacity hurdles. This project will build an Asia-Pacific Symposium on Psychedelic Medicine, bringing together international experts and stakeholders to raise awareness, foster collaborations, build research capacity, and secure major funding to advance psychedelic research in the region.

Strengthening Indigenous knowledge and community partnerships
The erosion of Indigenous knowledge, traditions, and languages due to colonisation and modernisation poses a significant threat to cultural heritage and identity. By fostering collaborative research on Country, the project will establish a multidisciplinary consortium to integrate Indigenous knowledge systems with scientific research globally. It will contribute to sustainable cultural and natural heritage management, while also reinforcing the connection between people, Country, and community.
