Highlights from the past year at Monash University
Excellent (Research)
In 2024, Monash continued to take the national and international lead in research. From discovery research that will take us into the future, through to translational research that is changing lives today.
Revolutionising cardiac health
The Commonwealth Medical Research Future Fund awarded $50 million to the Monash-led Artificial Heart Frontiers Program based at the Alfred Hospital.
Driving systematic change to end violence against women
We launched the Centre of Excellence for Eliminating Violence Against Women. The initiative combines survivor-centred research with community-led solutions.
National boost for melanoma care and research
We joined the Federal and State Government to open the Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Centre, a world-class facility which combines cutting edge clinical trials, research and care.
Excellent (Education)
In 2024, we progressed innovative teaching initiatives and scaled up opportunities to connect students with industry and communities both locally and abroad.
Digital learning boost
Standardised templates for Moodle were adopted in nearly 7800 units. This ongoing program streamlines the student experience and improves staff support for digital learning
First year transition
We launched the Academic Success at Monash website for new students. More than 16,000 first year students accessed the site increasing student confidence by 25 per cent.
Volunteering
More than 1300 students completed the Foundations of Volunteering module, and 200 enrolled in the new for-credit Volunteering in Practice.
International
We implemented our new International plan which includes initiatives to further position Monash’s campuses as anchor institutions. Our popular collaborations with international partners to advance student mobility, excellent research and education continued to grow.
Supporting legal reform and advancing research
Our Malaysia campus established a hub for Monash’s Centre for Commercial Law and Regulatory Studies. The hub is collaborating with the Malaysian Government to support its review and reform of the country’s commercial laws.
The Banten Mosaic
The Banten Mosaic seeks to conduct collaborative and creative research addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by the province of Banten, home to approximately 13 million people and the Indonesia campus.
Strengthening collaboration in Europe
Monash University, Australia and the Monash University European Research Foundation signed a memorandum of understanding with the European University Institute to implement joint higher education and research activities.
