Respect at Monash (previously Respect. Now. Always.) is a whole-of-University initiative to prevent and respond to incidents of sexual harm and gender-based violence. Gender violence prevention is coordinated through the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion team, who utilise an intersectional approach to prevent gender-based violence and other forms of harm and discrimination. Sexual harm response is coordinated through the Safer Community Unit, which takes a trauma-informed, person-centred approach to coordination of disclosures, reports and support.
The Respect at Monash online modules were developed to help ensure the whole of the Monash community understands the University’s expectations around respect. All students studying at Monash must complete either ‘Respect at Monash’ or ‘Respectful Research at Monash’ (for graduate research students). Staff at Monash are required to complete the ‘Respect at Monash: For Staff’ module.

The includes information on reasons why victims-survivors find it difficult to disclose sexual harm; how to respond to a disclosure of sexual harm without causing further harm or trauma, and key services and self-care practices available for victims-survivors of sexual harm.
Student participation in the Responding to Disclosures training increased 31 per cent year on year, with more than 1000 completions in 2023.
