The event focused on Earth4All's framework for 'five key turnarounds' necessary for sustainable prosperity, emphasising systemic change to reduce inequality and foster sustainability. Discussions highlighted the need for economic overhaul, policy shifts, fiscal reforms, and new metrics to guide policy.
Dr Cameron Allen and Professor Rod Glover contributed insights on Australia's pathways to sustainable transformation, stressing the importance of integrated approaches and political pathways. The roundtable emphasised actionable proposals, grassroots mobilisation, and effective communication to drive transformative change.
Monash Business School's Impact Labs connect cutting-edge research with business needs to address global challenges like climate change, modern slavery, and AI. Launched in 2023, the labs foster interdisciplinary collaboration across faculties and engage with industry and government. A notable collaboration with Citipower involved identifying sustainability risks and opportunities, contributing to the development of problem statements and strategies.

The labs aim to provide tailored expertise and solutions, enhancing sustainability performance and societal impact.
Monash University, Indonesia hosted the 2024 Sustainable Development for Thriving Communities Conference, organised by the Centre for Development Economics and Sustainability (CDES) at Monash Business School and Monash University, Indonesia, in collaboration with Monash University Malaysia, the World Bank's East Asia and Pacific Chief Economist Research Center, and the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI).
The conference aimed to foster discussions on climate change adaptation and inclusive economic development, featuring keynote presentations and workshops on empirical research methods.

The event emphasised collaboration between academia, industry, and government to find innovative solutions for sustainable development in Indonesia and the Asia-Pacific region.

Dr Rongbin Xu and Dr Rob Mitchell from the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University have been awarded the 2023-24 Premier’s Awards for Health and Medical Research. Dr Xu's research on the health and epigenetic impacts of climate change-related environmental factors earned him the Public Health Researcher Award and the Premier’s Excellence Award. Dr Mitchell received the Health Services Researcher Award for his work on the Interagency Integrated Triage Tool in Pacific emergency departments.
Their research contributes to understanding and addressing public health challenges, particularly in the context of climate change and emergency care in low and middle-income countries.

Dr John Vong, an Adjunct Fellow at the Master of Public Policy and Management program, participated in a sharing session organised by PLN Group and Monash University, Indonesia, under the PLN Muda program. The event focused on the importance of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) implementation in state-owned enterprises, using PT PLN as a case study.
The session highlighted how ESG practices can enhance corporate value, financial performance, and sustainability. PT PLN's commitment to achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060 and integrating ESG principles into its operations was emphasised, aligning with Monash University's dedication to supporting sustainable development goals.
The Monash Sustainable Development Institute (MSDI) has joined the Alliance for Transformative Action on Climate and Health (ATACH) and the Sustainability Transitions Research Network (STRN), enhancing its global partnerships. Dr Angie Bone, Associate Professor of Practice in Planetary Health at MSDI, participated in ATACH's first global in-person meeting, emphasising MSDI's commitment to addressing climate-related health issues.
MSDI's membership in STRN further solidifies its role as a leader in sustainability transitions research, working collaboratively with global partners to drive systemic changes towards sustainability.

Monash University Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Sharon Pickering, has been appointed to the inaugural board of the ASEAN-Australia Centre. This centre aims to strengthen ties between Australia and Southeast Asia by enhancing people-to-people links, supporting emerging leaders, and deepening trade and investment connections.
