Bachelor of CyberAI – Selection Process

Entry into the Bachelor of CyberAI involves a two-stage selection process designed to identify students who have both the academic capability and personal attributes suited to the program and its immersive industry experience.

Selection for the course is based on:

• Academic eligibility through ATAR and University entry requirements
• A compulsory interview process
• Supplementary information form

The interview process provides an opportunity for applicants to demonstrate skills and attributes that are important in CyberAI, including critical thinking, ethical awareness, communication skills, collaboration, curiosity and motivation for the field.

Step 1: Apply through VTAC

To be considered for the Bachelor of CyberAI, you must:

• Apply through VTAC by 4 December (5pm)
• Include the Bachelor of CyberAI in your course preferences by 18 December (4pm)
• Meet the minimum academic and course entry requirements

Following the release of ATAR results and the December Change of Preference period, eligible applicants will be shortlisted for interview.

Not all applicants will be invited to interview.

Applicants selected for an interview will receive an email invitation with information about interview dates and how to book their session.

Step 2: Supplementary Information Form

All applicants must submit the Monash University Supplementary Information Form available from: Supplementary Information Form.

Step 3: Interview process

Shortlisted applicants will complete two interview components:

Group interview

The group interview is designed to assess how you engage with others and approach discussion-based activities.

Format

• Duration: 20–30 minutes
• Approximately 15 applicants per group
• Conducted online via Zoom
• Facilitated by University and industry representatives

During the session, you will participate in a structured discussion activity based on a CyberAI-related scenario.

We are interested in how you:

• Contribute to discussion
• Listen and respond to others
• Demonstrate critical thinking
• Consider different perspectives
• Apply ethical reasoning
• Communicate your ideas

Assessment is based on the quality of your participation and engagement, not on having the “right” answer.

Individual interview

The individual interview provides an opportunity for you to discuss your interests and motivation for studying CyberAI.

Format

• Duration: 10 minutes
• Conducted online via Zoom

Questions may focus on:

• Your interest in CyberAI and related fields
• Why you would like to study the course
• Your learning experiences and future goals
• Your curiosity and willingness to learn

Example discussion activity

As part of the group interview, you may be asked to discuss a scenario involving technology, cybersecurity or artificial intelligence.

Example:

A large secondary school introduces an AI-powered monitoring system designed to improve student safety and wellbeing. The system analyses student emails, online activity and learning behaviours to identify students who may be experiencing bullying, mental health challenges or safety risks.

While some people believe the technology could help protect students, others are concerned about privacy, fairness and how the information may be used.

Applicants may be asked to participate in a facilitated discussion exploring a range of topics and scenarios related to cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. Discussion activities may involve considering different perspectives, identifying opportunities and challenges, exploring ethical considerations, and demonstrating approaches to problem solving and decision making.

Selection outcomes

Selection into the Bachelor of CyberAI is based on a combination of academic performance, interview outcomes and supplementary information form ranking.

Applicants will be notified of outcomes through the standard VTAC offer process.
