What attracted you to IT?
I have always been interested in technology and in addition to this, I enjoy seeing the development of ideas. IT is the perfect field for the merging of these two things. It always interesting to see an idea, taken from its inception, having structures and systems put around it to frame and support it and to enable it to have an almost infinite lifespan and finally to see it in the hands of an everyday person. This is one of the major reasons I enjoy and am attracted to IT.
Why did you choose Monash?
I chose Monash because it was ranked the highest university in my region for what I wanted to study. Interestingly enough, the best aspects of my time of study at Monash have not necessarily been the degree itself but rather the multiple experiences that the university has made available and allowed me to participate in (the study abroad program, the Industrial Experience program, the Hackathon, etc.).
Why did you choose your course?
The course that I am doing (Bachelor of Business Information Systems) offers a good balance of Human interaction and technical training. What we do is we develop systems for people in business that help them manage and grow their business and it's interactions with its outside world. I like really enjoy IT but it’s always been important to me to have a good amount of interaction with people. This course offers a very good balance of the two.
What is your favourite thing about your major?
My favourite thing about my major is seeing the technologies that we are learning about being used in the everyday work environment. The practical, everyday application of a lot of what is taught in this degree is often very visible to see. It surprises me how often, while at my workplace, I will meet a challenge that I know how to work round primarily because of the content that we have been taught in this degree.
Apart from study, what else are you involved in both at Monash and off campus?
Apart from studying, I work part-time as an IT freelance agent with a company in the Melbourne CBD. In addition to this, I attend a local church and work with the youth of that church. There are a few other things that I do outside of university but these two are of particular importance to me because they remind me that though my studies are very important, there are things of greater significance in life.
What has been the highlight of your course so far?
The highlight of my course so far has been the study abroad program that I did during my second year.
