The graduate research journey
Monash IT graduate research degrees (PhD and MPhil) follow the Monash Doctoral Program (MDP). The MDP blends original research with training options that support you through your research journey, and prepare you for your career.
Your research degree options
Two year research degree, 30 000 word thesis.
The Master of Philosophy involves the independent investigation of a research problem that has been formulated by the student. It is expected that the research undertaken will significantly contribute to knowledge in the discipline by applying, clarifying, critiquing or interpreting knowledge. You will be supported throughout your degree by at least two supervisors.
Up to four years in duration, 80 000 word thesis.
The Doctor of Philosophy involves the independent investigation of a research problem that has been formulated by the student. It is expected that the research undertaken will make a significant contribution to the discipline in which the student is enrolled, and demonstrate your ability to perform independent research. You will be supported throughout your degree by at least two supervisors.Students are also required to complete a compulsory program of coursework study as part of the Monash doctoral program. This discipline-specific program is designed to impart skills and knowledge that will assist them to conduct their research.
Up to four years in duration. Examined by demonstration plus a 30 000 word exegesis (thesis).
In this innovative PhD you’ll be able to present a substantial amount of your research through an immersive, interactive demonstration or exhibition that engages one or more of the senses. Your research will typically be interdisciplinary, linking IT with another field such as health and medicine, urban planning, cultural heritage or design. Areas like creative robotics, 3D visualisation, simulation and animation, interactive media, wearable technologies and games are suited to this PhD program.
