A path known for a lifetime

Since I was young, I’ve always been fascinated by the world of IT and felt that it was the ideal field for me. When I finished Year 10 in India, I knew that henceforth, IT would only expand and advance by leaps and bounds, and that modern ‘Science & Technology’ would drive the world of tomorrow.

The prospects of this field inherently made it the best place to work, moreover, I’ve always been tech-savvy, making it a no-brainer for me to pursue a career in this domain.

Focusing on the future with Monash

After I completed my bachelor’s degree, I wanted to augment my technical knowledge with the nitty-gritty and complexities of business management in the context of IT.

I believed that the Master of Business Information Systems from Monash University would go a long way in facilitating progress towards my ambitions, giving me the knowledge, guidance and resources required to achieve all-round excellence. The merit scholarship was also very appealing and invariably quite influential in my final decision.

What’s more, after viewing the course curriculum, I felt that Monash was indeed the ideal place for me to gain the skills needed to succeed in my professional life.

A new home: Melbourne

Despite being from overseas, I’ve always felt safe and secure in Melbourne.

Initially, I was amazed to see how friendly the locals are towards strangers, especially international students. This made transitioning and settling down quite seamless for me. They’ve always welcomed diverse people with open arms, which is something I admire, and am immensely grateful for.

Life has been fun and exciting in one of the most liveable cities in the world.

Real-world experience. In-demand skills.

The practical knowledge and exposure to the IT industry that I gained through various real-world programs and projects in my units have been the biggest takeaways for me. I strongly believe that these endeavours have made me not only job-ready but also future-ready.

The Industry Experience unit was the most remarkable learning experience because it gave me a real taste of what lies ahead.

Working in a multicultural team virtually during the pandemic was an enormous challenge, but it taught me a lot and assisted me in growing both personally as well as professionally. Moreover, the superb opportunity to exhibit our knowledge coupled with hard and soft skills along the way, and put them to good use was truly special and beneficial for all of us.

During my time at Monash, I was also actively involved in several extracurricular activities as a Peer Mentor, Tech Squad Senior and Student Ambassador. All these roles enhanced my social and professional networks, and allowed me to hone some important skills like teamwork, communication and leadership.

Passionate about people-focused technology

I’m particularly interested in the ethical issues emerging from the extensive use of AI – Are we heading towards a world driven solely by intelligent machines? Will we be able to tame automated machines in the future?

My course helped shed some light on these pertinent issues by elucidating the details and proposing some practical solutions to 'curb the menace' adhering to the 'Ethical Design Principles'.

There were also many other prevalent issues raised throughout my course, from ‘privacy’ to ‘data security’. It was great to learn about the measures to protect people and actions we can take to ensure high accountability and transparency.

Pearls of wisdom for future students

As someone rightly said, one of the best investments you can make is apparently in your higher education.

The Master of Business Information Systems at Monash offers world-class academics and facilities. The holistic approach towards all the practical concepts also makes it easier for students to gain insights into the core skills and techniques needed to excel later on in their professional careers.

If you’re determined to achieve your dreams, Monash can really help. I firmly believe the university strongly focuses on nurturing talent to help them stand out in today’s competitive workplace.

So just embrace your time at the university to the fullest from day one. Give your best while enjoying what you’re doing. Remember, all your grit, graft and tenacity will ultimately pay off! Keep going strong my friend!
