Hello, my name is Ben and I'm from China. After working in IT services management for five years, I was looking for a graduate school to equip me with modern IT skills - and prepare me for the future. That's when a friend, and Monash alumni, recommended the Master of IT.
The Faculty of IT is renowned not only in Australia but around the world. My course also provides an excellent way for IT enthusiasts to advance in the field, even if they didn't study computer science in their bachelor's.
What's more, a big highlight of studying the Minor Thesis stream has been learning from some of the world's smartest academics.
Monash also offers many opportunities, whether it's through club events or mentoring programs, to connect to beautiful people from diverse backgrounds. So far I've joined several clubs ranging from social to religious. I'm also a proud Lupa College member, which is a Monash Non-Residential College that aims to provide students living off-campus with social and academic benefits.
An avid volunteer, Monash gave me a chance to use my skills for good through the COVID-19 Case Tracker Australia project. A not-for-profit open-source COVID information web app, supporting this initiative allowed me to invest my time into meaningful, rewarding work.
Life in Melbourne has also been awesome. This city has friendly people and a rich culture. It's a paradise for me. Two years ago, I wouldn't have believed that I would learn how to cook. But now, I can now cook a variety of dishes, from Asian to European.
If I could go back in time, I would still make the same choice to come to Monash. And I would advise the past me to be bold and aim for the highest goals.
