Aim: To harness information technology and systems to improve lives.
Bangladesh is currently burdened with a high poverty rate and increasing gender inequality. A high percentage of the population rely on the land to feed their families and generate an income, however the harmful impact of climate change on the land is profound. In spite of the poverty rate, mobile phone ownership and internet access are widespread.
As part of the PROTIC program, mobile technology has been distributed to women living in rural and isolated areas of Bangladesh. The technology empowers women by connecting them to networks that provide accurate information about agricultural practices, health, housing, weather forecasts, flood warnings and food alerts. Access to such information can protect and significantly improve the livelihood of participants, contributing to meaningful change in their lives.
