Take CTRL 2022
Take CTRL 2022
Hands-on, eye-opening tech workshops for Year 10 to 12s – no experience required!
Technology underpins almost every aspect of our world. So it’s no surprise that jobs in the field are growing rapidly.
A fun and free school holiday activity for highschoolers in years 10 to 12, Take CTRL offers a series of interactive workshops showcasing cool things you can create with code – and no experience is required!
Hosted by leading IT academics and current students from Monash, the event will feature workshops on:
bumble-B Workshop
Develop your coding skills with confidence at The STEAM Engine Co.’s bumble-B workshop! By the end of the workshop, you will attain a creative licence to code. The team will take you through to conditional programming such as if/else statements where you can create your own LED-dot animations. With a bit of curiosity and grit, you can even create your own games like Pong, Snake and Tetris in your own time. Who knows, you may even modify your own bumble-B to solve a real-world problem.
Python Coding Workshop
Delivered by student-run club Monash Association of Coding, this workshop introduces participants to the wonderful world of Python – a coding language integral to leading software companies. You will work on a real-life project and get a hands-on experience of what software development and programming looks like.
DrawBots Workshop
Can you teach a robot to create art? In this workshop run by SensiLab, one of our faculty’s leading research labs, you’ll get to play with some cute little robots that are designed to draw and make art. You’ll learn how to control and program them, and design your own robot drawing that you can take home. Reflect on the question of what makes something ‘art’, and consider whether something non-human is capable of doing so!
Cryptography and Web Hacking Workshop
In this workshop run by MonSec, our student club dedicated to teaching practical cybersecurity skills, you’ll take a crash-course in cryptography and web hacking in fun and challenging ways.
On top of all the fun activities, attendees will also get the chance to meet and greet Monash academics and students, learn more about all the exciting pathways from an IT degree and take their first step into life at uni!
Remember – no coding experience is required for any of these workshops! And it’s all free!
