Sharing a love of data
For Bachelor of Business Information Systems alumna, Christelle Young, passing Sir John Monash’s quote embossed on the pathway behind the Sir Louis Matheson library: "…equip yourself for life, not solely for your own benefit but for the benefit of the whole community," was a way to re-energize. It was a daily reminder of why she came to Monash University and a constant motivation to focus on what she aimed to achieve.
Today, Christelle achieved what she set out to and is now a Senior Data Analytics Associate for A.T. Kearney, working with major corporations across the globe. "My current focus is data analytics and I enjoy the opportunity to bring value and meaning to the plethora of data most companies are sitting on and further develop my clients to champion analytics within their own organisations."
Within her role, Christelle utilises the skills she learnt during her Monash degree. "So much teaching from my subjects has been translated into what I currently do today. I need a diverse range of skills to tackle the multitude of problems. From SQL, to web development, to python, to supply chain optimization, to VBA coding in excel, to statistics and machine learning. I use all of the skills I learnt at Monash." Christelle also found the opportunity to complete an Industry Experience Project, prepared her for the realities to come within her role. "Having the opportunity to work with a real-life client, showed me the inner workings of the industry and the interpersonal skills needed to succeed beyond University life."
Christelle is now the Chief Strategy & Analytics Officer at L'Oréal ANZ and an Advisory Board Member for the Centre for Business Analytics at the Melbourne Business School.
