New Head of Human-Centred Computing Department for Monash Faculty of IT
The Faculty of Information Technology at Monash University is proud to announce Professor Jesper Kjeldskov as its new Head of Department for Human-Centred Computing (HCC) – top 10 globally in its discipline. He is also the first Director of its newest theme, Human-Centred AI.
Professor Kjeldskov joins the Faculty from CSIRO’s Data61 where he was Research Director of Cyber-Physical Systems, restructuring the program and focusing it on sustainability in its strategy ahead.

Before Data61, Professor Kjeldskov was Head of Aalborg University’s Department of Computer Science in Denmark where he was instrumental in establishing strategic direction, significantly growing its size and introducing new educational programs. Prior to this, he co-developed a successful research group in Human-Centred Computing consisting of 30 academics and PhD students – and still growing.
A world-renowned researcher, Professor Kjeldskov has attracted over $15M in funding including a recent $4M Innovation Fund Denmark project with Danish companies Bang & Olufsen, SoundFocus and Wavecare developing next-generation sound zone systems. Hailing from an interdisciplinary background combining humanities, social sciences and computer science, his interests span interaction design and user experience for mobile computing, AI-based devices, and telepresence – focusing on these technologies primarily in non-work settings and for supporting sustainability.

To date, Professor Kjeldskov has contributed to more than 200 publications with over 6000 citations. He has also won the Most Influential Paper Award two years in a row in the ACM International Conference on Mobile Human-Computer Interaction.
In education, Professor Kjeldskov delivered over 80 undergraduate and postgraduate subjects at Aalborg University, and was integral to the design and establishment of several programs in Interaction Design – among other disciplines. He has also taught at numerous levels within higher education and industry which have driven several publications and industry-focused research grants.
