Credit versus Exemptions
If you have completed academic study, at a university level, which you believe is equivalent to any units in your degree, you can apply for either credit or exemptions. If you receive credit, you will be awarded credit points and you will not be required to complete these units. If instead, you are granted exemptions, you will not receive credit points and you will be required to replace these units with alternative units. Some students prefer the option of credit as this can allow for a shorter course duration. Other students prefer to have their previous knowledge recognised by receiving exemptions and completing other units in their place. For either option, you are required to complete a credit application.
Already applied?
If you applied for credit as part of the course application your credit has already been processed. The units you need to enrol in are listed on your course map. Refer to your course map and mark the units you have been granted credit for. Using your course map as a guide you should then enrol in four units (24 credit points) for Semester 1 and four units (24 credit points) for Semester 2. Remember to pay attention to the pre-requisite and co-requisite units listed on your course map.
What if I haven’t applied for credit and I want to?
Don’t worry, you can still apply for credit, for completed university level units, if you haven’t already done so. You can also search online for previous credit decisions to give you an idea of what you may be granted.
You don’t need to provide your results or syllabi for any Monash units you have already completed (we have these already). And, if you have already provided your academic transcripts online as part of the application process you do not need to provide these again (we have them too). We recommend that you submit your credit applications as quickly as possible. This will allow you plenty of time to change your enrolment prior to the start of semester.
Foundation credit
If you are seeking credit for level-9 foundation units and have already provided your academic transcripts online as part of the application process you do not need to provide these again. All you need to do is complete a credit application indicating which units you are seeking credit for. You will be notified once your credit has been approved. Until then you should enrol into the foundation units for your first semester. This will ensure that you secure your place in your course. Your enrolment can then be changed when your credit application has been processed.
Level-5 credit
If you are seeking credit for level-5 units you will need to complete a credit application and provide syllabi for each unit you list on your application. Again, there is no need to provide the academic transcripts you have already provided to us through the course application process or for any Monash units you have already completed. Once your credit has been processed you will be notified. Until then you should enrol into a standard enrolment ie. assuming no credit. This will ensure that you secure your place in your course. Your enrolment can then be changed when your credit application has been processed.
If we do need any further information from you to assist with processing your credit, we will contact you.
