Electric vehicle charging
Electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are installed at our Clayton, Caulfield and Peninsula campuses. The stations may be used by staff, students and visitors to charge their vehicles.
There are 48 charging stations available, forming the most comprehensive EV charging network of any Australian university.

Using the charging stations
All charging stations are only accessible in the Chargefox app:
- Download the Chargefox app on your smartphone from the App Store (iOS) or the Google Play Store (Android).
- Register for an account using a personal email address (not your Monash email address).
- Drive to campus and park your vehicle in an available charging bay. If you are using an AC charger (<50kW), don’t forget to bring your own charging cable.
- Locate the charging station in the app. Unlock the station in the app and then plug in your vehicle.
- End your charging session in the app.
- Please vacate the bays promptly upon completing the charging process. If you do not move your car once it finishes charging, an idle fee will apply.
Your charging history can be accessed using the Chargefox app.
Charging fees
Fees are charged on a kWh basis. Different rates apply depending on the speed of the charging station and can be viewed in the Chargefox app.
An idle fee applies if your car is not moved from the charging station after charging is complete. A grace period of 15 minutes applies for Ultra Fast stations (150kW), and 60 minutes for Standard and Medium stations (<50kW). Idle fees are capped at $30 per charging session.
Charger Type | Fee | Idle Fee |
---|---|---|
DC - 150kW Ultra Fast | 60c/kWh | 9c/minute (after 15 minutes idle) |
AC - 22kW Medium | 30c/kWh | 9c/minute (after 60 minutes idle) |
AC - 7kw Standard | 25c/kWh | 9c/minute (after 60 minutes idle) |
Parking fees
Payment is only required for charging and is wholly managed through the Chargefox app - no parking fees apply while parked at charging stations.
If you need to park on campus after charging, see staff and students or visitor parking for parking options. For staff and students, if permit parking spaces are not available when you finish charging, please use meter parking.
