Building 4.0 is a Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) program co-funded by the Australian Government that aims to develop a thriving Australian advanced manufacturing sector.

More than 1.4 million people are employed in the Australian building industry, representing around 13 percent of GDP. However, the industry is facing strain from increasing costs, stagnant productivity, and increasing environmental performance and compliance standards. Increased customer expectations and sustainability requirements have also created additional pressure on the industry.

Building 4.0 CRC aims to address this by leveraging the entire construction value chain: identifying new efficiencies to lower costs, while reducing greenhouse gases and creating buildings that are more affordable, liveable, and environmentally friendly.

Building 4.0 CRC’s targets include reducing lifestyle costs by 40 percent through high-performing, efficient buildings and reducing project costs by 30 percent through digital technology and off-site manufacturing.
