Vice-Chancellor and President commencement

Monash University’s new Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Sharon Pickering, has acknowledged the unwavering support and contributions of Monash’s diverse alumni and donor community following her commencement in the role last month.
Professor Pickering is Monash’s 10th Vice-Chancellor and President, following the appointment of Professor Margaret Gardner AC as Victoria’s Governor in August last year, and the interim leadership of Professor Susan Elliott AM.
Professor Pickering has worked at Monash for more than 20 years, starting as a lecturer in Criminology, and has held a number of leadership roles at the University including Dean, Faculty of Arts, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) and Senior Vice-President, and Acting Provost and Senior Vice-President.
“I am incredibly proud and excited to now be leading this extraordinary University,” Professor Pickering said.
“At Monash, we are realising transformational change through our education and research excellence, and through our engagement with communities, industries and governments across the world.”
“Together with our alumni and donor community, we have a unique opportunity to empower our future leaders, drive innovation and inclusivity, and make a positive, tangible and meaningful impact on our world."
