Monash University’s Faculty of Education again ranked first in Australia and among the top 20 in the world in the Times Higher Education Rankings and Academic Ranking of World Universities for 2023 for its academic research excellence.
The Faculty's research agenda is focussed on working towards a society in which education enables full and equitable participation, with pillars on reimagining educational leadership, transforming teaching and learning, shaping digital futures, enhancing health and wellbeing, and educating for diversity and inclusion.

Faculty of Education researchers with funding through the Australian Research Council Laureate Fellowship scheme have undertaken a five year study exploring imaginary play among infants and toddlers. The findings of the Conceptual PlayWorld research project, which engaged with over 2500 educators and young children, have profoundly shaped understanding of the importance of imaginary play in early childhood development and its impact on STEM learning.

Monash Sustainable Development Institute and the Faculty of Education have collaborated on research exploring educator attitudes towards managing the volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (VUCA) of teaching in a complex and changing environment, with a particular focus on sustainable development education. The research aimed to understand current practices, barriers, and enablers in teaching social and emotional competencies to navigate challenges like climate change and political instability.

Monash Law students achieved significant success in various international and national mooting competitions in 2023, demonstrating excellence in legal argumentation and advocacy. They competed in events such as the Oxford International Intellectual Property Moot, Ian Fletcher International Insolvency Law Moot, and others, achieving high ranks and individual accolades.

The School of Business at Monash University Malaysia was named as a Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) Champion for 2023, recognising its contributions to responsible management education and its alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals. The School of Business focuses on integrating SDGs into research, curriculum, and partnerships, and participates in the Impactful Five (i5) Project to foster innovation in sustainability in higher education.

Monash Engineering hosted Year 10 to 12 Indigenous students from across Australia for the Victorian Indigenous Engineering Winter School (VIEWS) program. Activities included hands-on workshops with Monash High Powered Rocketry and Monash Nova Rover teams, and interactions in the Monash Makerspace. The event aimed to introduce First Nations students to engineering, supported by various university collaborations and Indigenous mentors.

Monash University offers Australia’s first Indigenous-focused Master of Indigenous Business Leadership, developed in collaboration between the William Cooper Institute and Monash Business School. The program is tailored to the needs of Indigenous leaders and integrates cultural perspectives into business education.
The Master of Indigenous Business Leadership at Monash University, a program designed by and for Indigenous people, integrates Indigenous knowledge with business leadership. It aims to empower Indigenous students through culturally safe education, blending traditional and Western business practices.

The Faculty of Education announced a partnership with the Ministry of Education in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to review and design innovative approaches in the delivery of initial teacher education. The project is a major education initiative, aiming to enhance educational quality through the reform of initial teacher education. The team of Monash experts will focus on building a methodology tailored to enhance the training of in-service teachers, ultimately aiming to improve student outcomes in UAE public schools.

The Monash Q Project, a partnership between the Faculty of Education and the Paul Ramsay Foundation, aims to improve how research is used to enhance teaching and learning experience in Australian schools. In the five years since the Q Project launched, the initiative has engaged more than 2,000 teachers and 1725 schools across Australia, developing tools and frameworks to enhance the use of research evidence in education.

Monash University Indonesia hosted a live Zoom event titled ‘Big Data, Big Ideas’, featuring a conversation with Ainun Najib, a prominent figure in Indonesia's tech scene. The discussion, which was part of Monash Indonesia’s ‘Indonesia Talks’ Series, explored Mr Najib’s views on the future of education and the tech industry in Indonesia, as well as his work in data and AI, contributions to policy and governance.

A total of 82 per cent of graduating domestic undergraduates found full-time work within six months of course completion in 2023 (up from 81 per cent in 2022). Median graduate salaries also grew in 2023, with full-time employed undergraduates earning a median salary of $73,000 (compared to $67,000 in 2022) and full-time employed postgraduates earning a median salary of $91,000 ($89,200 in 2022).
Employers of Monash graduates have also expressed high satisfaction, with around four in five indicating a strong likelihood of hiring another Monash graduate with the same qualification if given the opportunity.

Monash continued to increase the number of Indigenous student enrolments in 2023, with 365 students enrolled across undergraduate, postgraduate and higher degree by research levels (up from approximately 12 per cent on 2022 enrolments).
The University built on this momentum in 2023 through several Indigenous student recruitment initiatives, including delivering a four-day Indigenous experience camp in September and providing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Year 10–12 students with an in-depth insight into University life. Monash representatives also attended community events and facilitated ongoing recruitment initiatives for secondary school students, often in collaboration with partners, including Koorie Education Support Officers.

Monash University launched its new Kummargi Yulendj (“Knowledge is Rising” in Boon Wurrung language) scholarship program in September 2023, offering significant financial support for Indigenous and economically disadvantaged students. This initiative aims to enhance access to higher education and support over 6000 students with scholarships totaling over $50 million over three years.
