Elevating Teacher Training Programs in the United Arab Emirates

The Faculty of Education has secured a significant contract with the Ministry of Education in the United Arab Emirates to review and design innovative approaches in the delivery of initial teacher education in the UAE.

This project is a major education initiative, aiming to enhance educational quality through the reform of initial teacher education. The team of experts will focus on building a methodology tailored to enhance the training of in-service teachers, ultimately aiming to improve student outcomes in public schools.

Leading this transformative project are Professor Viv Ellis, Dean of the Faculty of Education, and Associate Professor Janet Scull, who will be supported by an expert team from Monash, as well as a global team of experts in teacher education, development and workforce planning.

"The Monash Faculty of Education is proud to have been selected from more than 10 international organisations to lead major ITE policy reform in the UAE. The new policy - underpinned by unique research and development - will have far reaching impact.” - Professor Viv Ellis

Central to the success of the Monash proposal, is the quality of the program design, the expertise of the team, and the global reputation of the Faculty of Education, as emphasised by Professor Ellis “Our partnership with the UAE government is a great example of the Faculty's research reputation as well as its reputation as partners in global ITE reform.”

The work to be undertaken will support the vision of the Ministry of Education to create “Innovative education for a knowledge, pioneering, and global society”. It also aims to support the UAE’s aspiration to become a desired site for teachers seeking to relocate as well as building a vibrant local workforce where teachers are valued, and the profession highly regarded.
