Transforming Initial Teacher Education for Social Impact Research Group
Engaging in critical scholarship and research related to Initial Teacher Education beyond ‘what works’.
About the group
The Transforming Initial Teacher Education for Social Impact group engages in critical scholarship and research related to Initial Teacher Education beyond ‘what works’. We focus on responding to and producing research related to:
- Initial teacher education, equity, social justice and diversity
- Current and ongoing debates about the purpose, aims and impact of Initial Teacher Education
- The future direction of Initial Teacher Education
- Global perspectives on how teachers should be prepared
These are some of the questions we investigate:
- What are the opportunities and challenges for Initial Teacher Education in the context of workforce shortages?
- How does Initial Teacher Education reproduce, reinforce or challenge how teachers are prepared and what does this matter?
- How can we better conceptualise (rethink and reposition) the common practices of Initial Teacher Education, such as traditional placements, to prepare teachers for a rapidly changing context?
- What new university/government/school/community partnerships are imaginable in a context of change?
- How can Initial Teacher Education respond to criticism?
- What does ‘quality teacher education’ mean and how can its impact be measured?
