MTeST FAQ

Simply go to this page and follow the MTeST link when the MTeST is open for applicants. Verify your identity, read the instructions provided at the start of the test and undertake the test in full before closing the browser.

You will need a working computer with a stable internet connection and a functioning webcam. The webcam is for the purpose of verifying your identity.

You will also need a Monash Student ID or VTAC ID.

Yes, you can complete the test anywhere, ideally in a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed.

You cannot take a break once you start the test.

The MTeST comprises seven open-ended questions and takes about 15 minutes to complete.

You’ll respond to each question by typing on your computer within a two minute time limit. You will receive a warning when you have 30 seconds remaining on each question.

The Master of Teaching in Early Childhood Education (course code D60011) does not require the MTeST or the Casper test. Applicants will be assessed on their academic results and must meet the English language requirements. Find out more about the entry requirements here.

The MTeST is open every day, 24 hours. Each applicant can sit the MTeST up to three times each admissions cycle.

Once you've completed your test submission, you should receive your result via email within 2-3 weeks.

For Monash College students looking to transition into Monash University:

Monash College students are advised to complete the MTeST before 1 December to transition into the Bachelor of Education (Honours) the following year. This is applicable to Education double degrees.

For currently enrolled Monash students seeking internal transfers:

A current Monash student (domestic or international) seeking to transfer into the Bachelor of Education (Honours) or the Master of Teaching via internal course transfer are advised to complete the MTeST before transfer applications close. Find out more about internal transfers.

No, you don’t need to book the MTeST. Simply return to this page, follow the MTeST link and have your identity verified before getting started. Once you start the test, you must complete it in one sitting.

You can have up to three attempts at the MTeST for each admissions cycle.

You do not need to study for the MTeST. The instructions will be provided to you at the start of the test.

You can undertake the MTeST to apply for teaching courses at Monash, but other institutions may still require Casper. The MTeST cannot be used for entry into non-Monash courses.

Please note that Casper is administered by Acuity Insights. As per their policy the test fees are non-refundable. The assessment cost is not charged or received by Monash.

Yes, you can now sit the MTeST if you have previously failed to meet the Casper requirement for Monash.

If you completed both the MTeST and Casper in the same cycle, we will use the higher result of the two for the relevant admissions period.

You’re not required to sit the MTeST if you’ve already taken Casper for the same intake. But if you choose to do both, we’ll use your best results.

We encourage you to complete the MTeST, even if you have already sat Casper, to maximise your chances of getting an offer.

Yes, you can choose to undertake the MTeST to satisfy the Casper test requirement outlined in your conditional offer. Keep in mind that it takes about three weeks for your MTeST to be processed.

The MTeST result is valid for one admissions cycle only. However, if you have been offered a place in our course and choose to defer for 12 months, you do not need to re-sit it.

The MTeST is free.

Grammar and spelling do not affect the outcome of the test.

No, you must complete the test in one sitting and you cannot go back to a previous question once the test has moved on to the next question.

You are allowed three attempts for each admissions cycle. If you failed the MTeST on your first attempt, you can try again.

No, you cannot appeal your MTeST results, but you have the opportunity to complete the test three times in the same admissions period.

The new test is an alternative to the Casper test and is designed to offer more flexibility and choice to applicants.
