An Australian family travelled to Rovaniemi, in Lapland, Finland. These children had never experienced snow before and were guided by locals who shared their knowledge, stories and traditions. These videos capture moments of connection, curiosity and cultural exchange.
Dubai
Tatiana lives in Dubai with her husband and their twelve-year-old daughter, Maia. Originally, Tatiana is from Russia and her husband is from Argentina; the family brings together multiple cultural traditions within their everyday life in Dubai. Maia, born and raised in Dubai, is fluent in speaking, writing and reading in Russian, Spanish, and English, and is developing Arabic and French at school.
Afnan and her family visited Emirates Bio Farm in Dubai. They took a barrel ride through the fields, picked vegetables, and fed the animals. When they reached the chicken enclosure, one of her daughters pointed out a shallow hole in the dirt with eggs at the bottom. A hen moved into the hollow and settled there.
Her daughter asked why the hen was sitting in the dirt. Afnan explained that the chicken was keeping the eggs warm so they could hatch.
A nearby family—a grandmother, mother, and children—overheard. The grandmother clarified that the hen was not incubating eggs but taking a dust bath, a behaviour chickens use to clean themselves and prevent pests.
Later, Afnan looked up information online and confirmed that the grandmother’s explanation was correct. It became a simple learning moment for everyone involved.
