The Victorian Health Promotion Foundation (VicHealth) is a pioneer in health promotion – the process of enabling people to increase control over and improve their health. VicHealth’s primary focus is promoting good health and preventing chronic disease. VicHealth create and fund world-class interventions conducting vital research to advance Victoria’s population health. The informal sport research project aligns with VicHealth’s encouraging regular physical activity’ strategic imperative.
The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC)’s mission is to facilitate lively communities and economy, and the offering of outstanding and inclusive sporting and cultural experiences. Our aim is to partner with local government to deliver good governance to community, to promote participation and achievement in sport, recreation, culture and arts, and support and grow the cultural industries.
The Centre for Multicultural Youth seeks to ensure that young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds have every chance to succeed in Australia. CMY works directly with young people through one-on-one support and group programs, creates leadership and participation opportunities for young people, supports others to work more effectively with young people, and undertakes research and advocates for young people at local, state and national levels. CMY has a long history of using sport to connect with multicultural young people and to support broader social outcomes. Staff that work with young people have increasingly recognised that young people are choosing to engage in informal, self organised sporting groups and these can provide an important source of physical activity as well as social connection.
Cricket Victoria oversees the management and develop and promotion of cricket at all levels across the state of Victoria. Cricket Victoria has at its heart a commitment to supporting diversity and inclusion across all it’s operations. The State Sporting Association has been quick to acknowledge the growth of informal participants across their sport, recognising this form of participation frequently attracts participants from multicultural communities. Cricket Victoria would like to better understand how they can engage with and support this form of participation alongside their existing provision.
