Leveraging AI for Effective Feedback: Scaffolding Feedback Literacy
Monash researchers launch a new project to transform feedback literacy through learning analytics and generative AI.
Description
The initiative, led by Dr Phillip Chan brings together Monash University and the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) to explore how the innovative PolyFeed platform can:
- Empower teachers – craft higher-quality, student-centred feedback and monitor its impact in real time.
- Support students – organise feedback from multiple sources, make sense of it, and create concrete action plans.
- Bridge the gap with AI – an AI-powered chatbot will guide students in interpreting feedback while helping educators compose more personalised responses.
Grounded in human-centred design and drawing on theories of feedback literacy, dialogic feedback, and student-centred learning, the project reframes feedback as an interactive, evidence-based dialogue. A pilot across eight subject units in four faculties/schools will be co-designed with educators and students and evaluated through surveys, interviews, focus groups, and usage analytics.
Success will be measured by adoption rates, gains in feedback literacy, and enhanced learning outcomes, generating rare comparative insights that inform culturally responsive and scalable feedback practices in both Australia and Papua New Guinea.
Stay tuned for results and opportunities to get involved.
