AI and HE Student trust: use and intentions
This project is a collaborative effort involving four major Australian universities: Monash University, the University of Queensland, Deakin University, and the University of Technology Sydney. Co-funded by these institutions, the project aims to understand higher education students' interactions with generative AI.
The problem at the heart of this research is the rapid integration of AI technologies in educational settings, which has outpaced our understanding of how students are navigating these changes. Many existing discussions on AI in education rely on assumptions or simplistic views of human-technology relationships. Our project seeks to fill this gap by empirically investigating higher education students' views, beliefs, and uses of AI. We aim to appreciate the complexity and diversity of student experiences and provide a nuanced understanding of their engagement with AI.
Anticipated outcomes of this project include significant contributions to both academic knowledge and practical applications. The evidence generated will inform teaching practices, curriculum development, and assessment strategies, with implications for academic integrity, work preparation, and digital strategy. By fostering new cross-sector collaborations, this project also aims to establish a sustainable and productive model for teaching and learning research, ultimately enhancing the Australian student experience.
