Please do not organise your own placement, or contact any school/centre directly to request a placement.
Professional Experience Placements – Important Information
Professional experience placements are an essential part of your Initial Teacher Education course, a Victorian Institute of Teaching accredited program. If you miss placement days due to illness or other approved reasons, you may be required to make up the time during university breaks.
While the Faculty will make every effort to allocate placements that are as convenient as possible, placements are subject to availability and specific arrangements cannot be guaranteed. Students must be prepared to travel to their allocated placement sites and adjust other commitments accordingly. Please be aware that placements may cause unavoidable disruptions to work or personal schedules.
Will I have the option to choose my own mentor/school for my final year placement(s)?
Yes! You will have the opportunity to self-nominate a mentor in a school or centre for your graduating level/final year professional experience placement(s). This is a completely optional process and only available during a set application period. If you don’t self-nominate, the Professional Experience Office will organise your placement(s) for you. Full details, including key dates and instructions, will be sent to you in Semester 2 before your graduating year placements.
Keep in mind that certain conditions apply, including having the school’s support and no conflict of interest. You must have an existing professional relationship with your proposed mentor - cold calling schools and centres or contacting them without prior arrangement is not allowed.
If you have been on intermission or are following a non-standard course map, please contact the Professional Experience Office directly via AskMonash for information regarding the self nominated requirements. Please ensure you provide at least 6 months’ notice.
