First Nations students get hands-on intro to engineering

First Peoples were the first engineers, and we were pleased to welcome Year 10 to 12 Indigenous students from across Australia to Monash Engineering on 6 July as part of the annual Victorian Indigenous Engineering Winter School (VIEWS) program, held in conjunction with the University of Melbourne, RMIT University, Swinburne University of Technology.
After a Welcome to Country by respected Wurundjeri and Yorta Yorta Elder Aunty Zeta Thomson, visiting students participated in hands-on workshops run by the Monash High Powered Rocketry (HPR) and Monash Nova Rover student teams. VIEWS students also spent time in the Monash Makerspace, met members of other student teams including Monash Motorsport and more!
Our thanks to the VIEWS Steering Committee, Indigenous mentors, student volunteers and the William Cooper Institute for contributing to the success of the visit.
