Welcome from the Head

Yan Wong

On behalf of our staff and students, I invite you to explore our website and discover more about who we are—our undergraduate and graduate programs, our academic team, their research initiatives, and the wide array of activities happening within our department.

Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering (ECSE) is one of the most dynamic and wide-reaching fields in technology. It has been the driving force behind many of the world’s most transformative innovations—electrification, electronics, radio and television, computing, telecommunications, the Internet, imaging, household appliances, medical technologies, lasers, and fiber optics. Looking ahead, ECSE continues to lead the way in emerging technologies such as mobile internet, the Internet of Things, advanced robotics, cloud computing, energy storage, renewable energy, and autonomous systems.

Our discipline is not just about technology—it’s a way of thinking. ECSE integrates engineering, science, mathematics, economics, and social understanding to solve real-world problems with creativity and precision.

At ECSE, our mission is to provide an education that goes beyond technical training. We aim to blend theory with practice, preparing students for lifelong learning and leadership. Our programs are continuously evolving to meet the needs of future engineers and professionals. Through double degrees, students can combine engineering with fields such as IT, science, law, commerce, arts, and more—opening doors to diverse career paths built on a strong engineering foundation.

We are proud of our cutting-edge teaching laboratories, which include facilities for electronics, robotics, computer vision, power systems, high voltage, software-defined radio, optical communications, mechatronics, and medical engineering. Our research infrastructure is among the best in any university, supporting innovative and interdisciplinary projects that often involve collaboration across departments.

Graduate students can pursue advanced coursework and research leading to Master’s and Ph.D. degrees, contributing to impactful discoveries and technological advancements.

There has never been a better time to begin your journey in electrical or computer systems engineering. Demand for our graduates is growing across industries—from technology and energy to finance and consulting—both in Australia and globally. If you're a prospective student, we warmly encourage you to visit us. We’re always excited to welcome new talent into our vibrant community.
