Professor Mahmoud Mostafavi
Research Interests:
My research focuses on structural integrity. I use experiments (e.g. synchrotron tomography and diffraction, high angular resolution electron back scatter diffraction, digital image correlation), modelling (e. Crystal plasticity), and machine learning (e.g. Gaussian process, recurrent neural network) to study fatigue, fracture, and creep.

My research focuses on structural integrity by linking microstructure to macroscopic performance. I use computational modelling combined with experimental data to study plasticity, fatigue, and deformation behaviour. The goal is to develop predictive tools that improve the assessment of material performance and durability in engineering application

The overarching goal of the HEART (Hemodynamics, Engineering, & Applied Research in Thrombosis) laboratory is to use mechanics to advance tools for diagnosing and treating cardiovascular disease. To support these efforts, the lab uses and develops both engineering and molecular biology tools, working closely with clinicians to tackle disease.

Dr. Daniel Duke
Research Interests:
Daniel's expertise is in turbulent multi-phase fluid flows. Specifically; cavitation, sprays, aerosols and particle formation. He specialises in the application of synchrotron x-ray diagnostics, optical diagnostics, and high performance computing tools to these problems. Application areas include pharmaceutical sprays and fuel injection sprays.
Professor Daniel Edgington-Mitchell
Research Interests:
In the shock lab, our team studies high-speed flows for aerospace propulsion and aerodynamics applications. We combine optical measurements with analytical techniques to build reduced-order models to predict the performance of propulsive-system components, including rockets, scramjets, jet engines, and rotating-detonation engines.
