My research focuses on structural integrity. I use experiments (e.g. synchrotron tomography and diffraction, high angular resolution electron back scatter diffraction, digital image correlation), modelling (e. Crystal plasticity), and machine learning (e.g. Gaussian process, recurrent neural network) to study fatigue, fracture, and creep.

Daniel's expertise is in turbulent multi-phase fluid flows. Specifically; cavitation, sprays, aerosols and particle formation. He specialises in the application of synchrotron x-ray diagnostics, optical diagnostics, and high performance computing tools to these problems. In the shock lab, our team studies high-speed flows for aerospace propulsion and aerodynamics applications. We combine optical measurements with analytical techniques to build reduced-order models to predict the performance of propulsive-system components, including rockets, scramjets, jet engines, and rotating-detonation engines.
