I am a world leading researcher in applied micro and nanotechnologies including photonics and microoptics, microfluidics integration, mechanical systems and biosensing development. These multidisciplinary works are clearly represented in the different publications in which I have contributed through my career. Since 2005 I have published 46 peer-reviewed papers, accumulating more than 480 citations in high impact factor journals (such as the Nature journal Microsystems and Nanoengineering, Nature journal Light: Science & Applications, ACS Nano, Chemistry of Materials, Nanoscale or Lab on a Chip), and resulting in a h-index of 14 (according to Scopus, orcid.org/0000-0002-5103-8717). I have been invited to present my work in different international conferences, workshops and industrial events. My research has resulted in the generation of knowledge, novel technologies, devices for painless self-healthcare monitoring, IP licenses, new commercial products and the creation of a high-tech company. Hence, my research has a significant impact in the fields of micro- and nanotechnology, photonics, microoptics, optical sensing and integrated systems.

As concrete examples: I have established novel technologies that have led to the development of devices that did not existed before, I have actively contributed to the creation of novel commercial products (i.e. polymers commercialized by micro resist technology GmbH), the invention of patents that are currently being commercially exploited and the foundation of one high tech nanotechnology based start-up. This demonstrate that my work not only has had an impact in the research community but it has also had a significant impact in the real world.
